1. Why is SCG aligning with Shaw Sportexe?
Because, in our experience, Shaw Sportexe provides the best and broadest line of synthetic turf on the market! And we need a great turf to build you a world class synthetic field system.
SCG is first and foremost a construction company – we’ve been building fields for more than 20 years. In doing so, we always buy the best raw materials – like drainage stone, pipes, infill and, of course, the turf itself. Shaw Sportexe is the largest producer of turf in the world and nobody does it better.
2. Why is Shaw Sportexe partnering with SCG?
Shaw Sportexe sought a partner it could trust to provide the highest quality sports field design, build and installation services. SCG fit the bill, based on the strength of its reputation and experience in building championship fields for championship teams at every level of play, including the NFL, MLB, MiLB and NCAA. Shaw Sportexe and SCG have long-standing working relationship that dates back to 2004.
3. How does this affect new customers/fields?
The primary beneficiaries of this partnership are the field owners, operators and specifiers who will have a turnkey partner on both sides of the field. They’ll receive the best and broadest line of synthetic turf from Shaw Sportexe combined with meticulous construction from SCG, the go-to contractor for sports field design, build and installation.
4. What makes Shaw Sportexe so good?
First of all, stability. Shaw Sportexe is 100% owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. The company is the world’s largest carpet manufacture and has $4 billion in annual sales and more than 25,000 employees. It is the leader in every category of floor coverings and leads the way in sustainable technology for turf. The bottom line…Shaw Sportexe is a power house.
Secondly, Shaw Sportexe has turf systems in play at every level – from the NFL, MiLB, NCAA, to hundreds of multi-use high school fields. The Shaw Sportexe fields have an excellent record of long-term performance with nearly 700 installations.
Third, the research and development that goes into the Shaw Sportexe product line is unmatched in the industry. Its full-time testing laboratory is the only one of its kind in North America. With 14 material tests and 16 sports performance tests, every Shaw Sportexe surface is tested for quality, safety and athletic performance.
Lastly, having been in business for 20 years, Shaw Sportexe is committed to our industry and is applying the resources to be in it for the long haul.
5. What does Shaw Sportexe see in synthetic turf to warrant this financial commitment in a tough economy?
Shaw Sportexe has been operating in this market for two decades. The company feels that synthetic turf is a long-term growth market and has turned its resources to making the finest turf carpet. Shaw Sportexe has new facilities dedicated to synthetic turf for R&D, extrusion, tufting, and coating. It is moving this industry from a “good old boys” network to a fully integrated system approach. We have personally met with the top executives of Shaw who demonstrated their commitment of resources to the synthetic turf market – they are all in.

6. Will we see a big change in product line-up?
More good news. SCG and Shaw Sportexe share the same philosophy of turf construction for athletic fields. We both insist on heavy face weight, high micron fiber thickness, placing the rows closely together (gauge), and, of course, meticulous installation that we control with our own crews. This is the way to build synthetic turf fields that hold their properties for a life cycle of 7 or 8 years.
7. What about field hockey products?
Shaw Sportexe has a long history of making top quality hockey pitches and has partnered on a number of fields with SCG, recognized as the leading builder of field hockey playing surfaces. It has short pile nylon products with no infill and longer pile hybrid products, like VictoryTurf, which have lots of fiber and a small amount of infill for hockey and multi-sport use.
8. How does this impact the warranties of SCG’s current customers?
No change. SCG has always covered your warranty and we will continue to do so. Should any issues arise, we are just a phone call away.
9. Is there any down side?
Just to the competition! Seriously, we are thrilled to partner with Shaw Sportexe. This is much more than a simple supply arrangement. SCG will be very involved in the product development, installation techniques, maintenance programs and sales of the Shaw Sportexe turf product lineup. Together we look forward to providing our field owners with the best experience for the long-term investment in their playing fields. Game on!!!
